Frieze Masters – #1
Text auf Englisch
This new annual magazine looks at art from different periods through a contemporary lens. An extensive features section includes an interview with art historian and novelist Marina Warner; Sam Thorne on the history of artists’ studios; and Amelia Groom on the recent wave of exhibitions mixing contemporary work with historic collections. In an extensive survey, contemporary artists nominate a work of art from the past that has influenced their own artistic evolution – including Chris Ofili on Titian, Grayson Perry on William Hogarth, and Susan Philipsz on Botticelli. Nicholas Penny, Director of the National Gallery, responds to the Questionnaire. In an unusual large format, the publication is visually led and designed by Sonya Dyakova, Art Director of frieze.
