Since its first appearance in 2005 Cijoffi’s ‘Imaginative Argument’ has been effectively used as an authoritative textbook in the writing curriculum. The second edition at hand incorporates recent changes in the field, adding new chapters on how to develop what the author calls, the ‘stream writing’ mode, and another on how to render one’s ideas more complex and more compelling. Cijoffi also introduces a range of concise clues to avoid erroneous logic and trite sentences. But mainly, he tries to figure how to uphold the value of using arguments in discourse, fearing that without it our communication is becoming hollow. His emphasis is that arguments are better formed when they are imaginative, which can be realized by activating our deep-seated feelings, for that only emotions and the personal experiences linked to them can serve as the launchpad for a successful writing experience.
